Years two and three are critical years within a pupils' mathematics training. It is when the foundations for may topics are laid and it is when the pupils begin to refine their strategies and move from counting to calculating; from informal jottings to written methods. Getting it right or wrong will impact the pupils for the rest of their life.
This one day course designed to support newly qualified teachers in the teaching of mathematics in years 2 and 3. Cate Cooke, an experienced Year 2 teacher, moderator for Bexleyand leading mathematics teacher will explore the intricaies of the mathematics curriculum in years 2 and 3 and give them guidance and practical ideas, with how to deliver the curriculum to a wide range of abilities.
You will be gain a better understanding of how to support your pupils in moving them from counting to calculating. You will have the chance to network with other teachers who are teaching in the same year groups as yourself. You will have the chance to ask questions to an experience teacher who is also a moderator and leading teacher.
